    Spice Cake YUMMY!!!

A friend of my husbands wife has no kids or grandkids to speak of, she is older and likes to send hubby home with goodies like Taffy, Licorice, and homemade bread.

All winter long she baked us this bread and the kids would devour it within minutes of hubby bringing it home. The kids made her some cards thanking her for the wonderful bread.

Well, she wrote up the recipe for me to I could also make it, so I am sharing with you all

    2 cups flour
    1 1/2 cups sugar
    1 teaspoon baking soda
    1 teaspoon baking powder

    1 teaspoon cinnamon
    1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
    1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
    1/2 teaspoon vanilla

    1/4 cup margarine or butter
    1/2 cup shortening

    3 large eggs
    1 cup buttermilk

Mix together softened butter/margarine, shortening, sugar, baking soda & baking powder. Add cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and vanilla. Mix well with mixer.

add eggs, flour and buttermilk. Mix with blender until mixed well and light & fluffy in appearance.

grease and flour 2 9x4 1/2 loaf pans. Fill 2 pans 1/2 way each with mix.

Cook at 350 for 35-40 mins, using the toothpick test in the middle to make sure they are done.
