Tater Tots Casserole
This is an easy go to meal that I like to make. It is fabulous because you dont have to cook the beef first so makes for fast prep time. I am not a fan of peas so I use fresh or frozen green beans. (fresh is much better of course) And I top it with cheddar cheese cuz I love cheddar.I also like to mix some soup in with the meat to give it more flavor then top it with extra. (I just use a larger size than stated)
Ingredients:
1 1/2 lbs raw lean ground beef
1 (10 1/2 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
2 cups frozen peas
1 1/2 lbs frozen tater tots
6 -8 slices American cheese
salt and pepper
Directions:
1 Lightly grease a 9 x 13 pan (makes cleanup easier).
2 Spread beef in bottom of pan.
3 Salt and pepper.
4 Cover with the can of soup; spread evenly.
5 Layer the frozen peas over the meat and soup.
6 Arrange tater tots in rows over the casserole.
7 Cover and bake at 375 for 1 hour and 15 minutes.
8 Uncover and add slices of American cheese to top of casserole.
9 Bake uncovered for 15- 20 minutes, till cheese is brown and casserole is hot and bubbly.Last edited by bullmama; 10-26-2014 at 03:28 PM.

cali~jenn, this was one of my kids favorite dinners when they were growing up, it is cheap to make and it makes a ton, with two teen-age boys at the time, I made it about every two weeks. I forgot about this dish until you posted. I think I will make it and give half to my son and his fiance and keep half for us.

Re: Tater Tots Casserole
This was great! I also used cheddar cheese because the american cheese did not sound too appetizing. Next time I think I will make sure the hamburger goes to the very edge of the pan as much as possible however, I did not account for shrinkage. So the 'end pieces' did not have much meat!
This was SO EASY to make. I don't think I have made a dinner this easy in years! Even easier than making TV dinners or Boxed dinners!

Re: Tater Tots Casserole
Yeah thats what I love about it, just throw it together and be done with it.
I have never noticed the shrinkage of the meat but I usually use the 2 lb packs I think (since thats how I buy it) so that must be why.

Paige try this one, it is easy and kinda fun to make! You may want to only make half, in an 8x8x8 casserole, if it is just for two of you!

Re: Tater Tots Casserole
Paige I am sure I have tried it with turkey before and yes it works fine. I replace turkey with most all my ground beef recipes when trying to "be good."
