    Crock Pot Refried Beans

1 lb. of Pinto Beans, rinsed. Put beans in crock pot and cover with water. Cook on high for 6 hours. Drain in a colander and return beans to crock pot. Add 5 cups of water, 3 slices of bacon, 1/4 to 1/2 cup of sliced or chopped onion and a little salt. Cook on high for about 8 hours, or until the beans are soft. Mash with a potato masher. Then, using a hand mixer, mix on high until the beans are smooth. Turn crock pot on high and add 1/2 to 1 cup of butter or margarine, or if you dare...use lard instead. Stir, then cook on high, uncovered, until the beans have absorbed the butter and have thickened. Serve right from the crock pot!

These are delicious!!! Best beans ever! I like to fry them in a pan with butter before serving and top with cheese. I remember when Chip and I were first married Grammy made these and I ate them for a week straight!

Made this this weekend for a family BBQ that we had at our house and it was SOOOOO good! I ate may too much of them LOL I wasn't going to have time to cook them for the 6 hours then the 8 hours so I soaked them from ~ 7pm Friday night until I woke up Saturday morning then I put them in the crock pot with the bacon and onions for the 8 hours. I did 1/2 cup of butter, I was afraid to to an entire cup LOL After I used the hand mixer the beans seemed too thin but like the recipe says if you let him sit with the lid off they will thicken up. It made an entire crock pot full and everyone loved them. This is definitely my new favorite way to make refried beans

    Crock Pot Refried Beans

Bump! I added a couple of peppers in (green chilis) while they cooked and it was even better!
