Slow cooked French dip sandwiches
I decided to try a "french dip" version after making the Italian beef and I like this even better.
Chuck Roast
Beer or root beer
2 Au Jus packet mixes
two large sliced onions.
1 T Horseradish
S&P TT
Combine all except 1 packet of au jus mix. Liquid should just cover meat. Cook 24 hours in the crockpot on low. May cook on high for less overall cooking time but fullest flavor is achieved with longer cook time.
Served on a toasted hard bun with melted swiss cheese. Dip in au jus.
I will say that the beer/au jus it cooked in wasn't as good as just regular au jus for the dipping. the beer gave it a different flavor I wasn't impressed with. But with the regular au jus it is fantastic.
I have not made this substituting root beer for the beer, but someone from another forum I post on has and they liked it. So if you never have beer around, try root beer.
Another time I'm going to add sautee'd mushrooms on the sandwiches too. Just because I love sauteed mushrooms.Last edited by LariP; 01-20-2013 at 12:39 PM.
