Do you ever visit your local ethnic grocery store?
This morning I took a field trip to Good Food Market, here in Pasadena. I found this place via Groupon and prior to that, had never heard of them. They are a mom and pop grocer that stocks mainly Armenian and Lebanese foods. They have an assortment of meats at their butcher counter, and a huge variety of cheeses and spices.
I had fun just wandering around.
These are some of the things I ended up buying today:
From the top can going clockwise: Egyptian strained fava beans, pickled turnips--really crunchy and zesty-tasting, fresh black figs, kalamata olives, Armenian black olives, and Indian yogurt.
I also got some beautiful tomatoes on sale, feta and brie cheese, and roasted whole almonds.
I am planning to make this grocery store part of my regular rotation for food shopping--prices were very reasonable and it's a place to go for some specialty items I can't find anywhere else.
How about you guys...do you have a favorite ethnic market that you like to roam around and shop in your neck of the woods?

When we traveled from 2000-2008 I really enjoyed going to local markets and butchers. These days I only go three places, but I also now have 4 kids and a heck of a lot less time as I used to have.

Sadly, I go nowhere. We have a local carneceria that is good and I go there for Mexican foods but am always in a hurry so don't randomly shop. Other than that we don't have much in my city as far a variety that I know of.
