Wine and Cheese Party Menu Ideas

Wine and Cheese Party Menu Ideas

Has anyone hosted one or been to a wine and cheese party? I am planning to throw one next month for a small group of peeps...i think there will be 4 couples. I'm going to ask them to bring a bottle of wine (audience participation ), and I'll provide the cheeses and i'm thinking "finger foods". I also wanted to make one dish that's a little more substantial tho since they'll be over around 6pm.
    Oh, and dessert too.

Any suggestions or thoughts on how to throw a great wine and cheese party are most welcome!

I've gone to a Wine Tasting before, and it was very fun!

They served fruits and veggies to "cleanse your palate" between courses. Strawberries and melon; broccoli, carrots and cauliflower -- if I recall. Maybe apple wedges, too. I dunno the day got fuzzy as we went along... by the end of it, we had consumed two entire bottles-worth! LOL!

I am wracking my brain, trying to come up with a light party-able snack that's light enough to be portable and heavy enough to help keep the pace of the party slow...

All I come up with is perhaps something like little Club Sandwich quarters? Portable. Finger food. Protein to offset the alcohol. Whatcha think?

I was thinking chili - but that would entail bowls and spoons and not everyone likes chili and then you have to get crackers and vinegar and and and Nahhh, not chili.

    Thanks for the suggestions Traci!

I'm still deciding. I have two weeks til the party. But, i'm thinking about the following:

some kind of cheesy, scrumptious mac n' cheese dish
    mini pizzas
sweet and sour meatballs (crockpot dish, recipe on this forum)

and stations where there's dark chocolate chunks to sample, apple/pear slices, grapes, cheeses (of course), and crusty bread and crackers.

flourless choc cake (maybe), cream puffs, and/or cheesecake, maybe a seasonal dessert like a pumpkin pie dish or apple cake.

    that's it so far!

As I look thru this fantastic forum, I'm finding more ideas for the wine and cheese party. So now i'm thinking of having my menu based around the recipes that are posted here.
Pumpkin gooey cake and artichoke dip are sounding good so far...I don't need to look in any other cook books when i got Taste Tested Recipes!

    Turned out really great!
    I had 6 wines (3 red, 3 whites), and 1 "bonus" wine--a Moscato.

had 5 diff. cheeses and I also made sweet and sour meatballs and stuffed mushrooms. Had some mini pizzas and crusty bread and different crackers; big olives stuffed w/garlic, Wasabi almonds, dried figs, grapes and apple slices. For dessert my friend baked brownies and I bought some really yummy cream puffs and baklava, oh and dark chocolate.

I am looking forward to having another one very soon!

I was thinking of the cheesy dip that is served warm in the bread cobb, that always goes down well with most and if I remember correctly it is very tasty.
