    Beauty tips....

    Beauty tips....

Figured it would be fun to share our random beauty tips. I love coconut oil and as we'll as putting it in my coffee I use it in the shower with sugar as a body and face scrub. Makes your skin so soft. I haven't tried it as a deep conditioner yet but they say it works well, how could it not?

    What r your secret tips?

I use coconut oil as a deodorant... It has a natural disinfectant property. I also put a teensy but on my hands and run it through my hair after shampooing, to add moisture and reduce frizzies.

It also has SPF5 or so, naturally, so I put it on my face, arms and legs if I'm going to be out in the sun for very long.

As a deodorant?! Really? Have heard of so many things you can do with it but never that. Wow! Might have to try it on a stay at home day in case it doesn't work. Lol! I do like to use it as a face wash/lotion. Makes your skin feel so healthy and glowy.

    Fun thread!

Try this one out for soft skin:

Mix 1 part plain yogurt, 1 part honey together. Apply to your face and let it sit for 15minutes. Rinse off well with warm water. Super soft skin and a glowing complexion!

I've also used olive oil with sea salt and some lavender drops as a bath scrub. I still need to get some of that coconut oil tho!

Never tried the yogurt... Just rinse off? Also anytime I use olive oil instead of rinsing I just rub it into my hands. Today there was salt, pepper and olive oil on my hands so I scrub/rubbed it in and wiped with a towel. Feels good.

I used to love making bread for that same reason... The lovely hands!
I should re-visit that to help lessen the arthritis that has been killing my hands the past year!

    It works!
If I use regular anti-perspiration for more than a couple days, it makes the little nodes in my armpit get angry and swell up... Not sure what's up with that. But the coconut oil works perfectly well.
It is not an ANTI-Perspirant, but I find that I actually sweat LESS using the oil.

(I've always been a champion sweater, so this was a surprise -- something in the a/p actually MAKES me sweat MORE?!)

I used coconut oil as a teenager for suntan but since I have aged I am now know how silly that was with so much sun cancer around, I use olive oil in my hair every now and then to stop my scalp drying out and if you suffer dandruff this is great for removing it you just need to put a about a teaspoon (they say a few drops) and rub into your scalp. Obviously this best done at night so you don't have greasy hair when going out.

Ok so I have made a fabulous scrub and love it! Mix granulated sugar and coconut oil til it is a good wet sand consistency then squeeze the juice of a lemon or 2. Mixing the oil and sugar first, prevents it from breaking down when you add lemon. I make a Tupperware container full and keep it in the shower. Lemon is supposed to help with age spots and stuff so this is a perfect mix. Love it!

I've been doing olive oil and sugar… I don't know why I never thought to do coconut oil! I use it for everything else…

And that lemon, would be a really good peeling-agent.

    Sounds like a great concoction!

I like this!! I just bought another jar of coconut oil AND granulated sugar today...i think i have one lemon floating around somewhere too. Great beauty recipe, Jenn.

btw, i went to a hotel recently and checked out their spa--they had these beautifully smelling scrubs for sale--some had bourbon in it, some had vodka...my favorite was this watermelon/vodka infused scrub--it smelled divine. BUT, the price tag for one jar was $35 so i passed on it. I think homemade is the way to go.

Julie, i suffer from the occasional flaky/dry scalp so i'm going to try this out. Do you rinse your hair out after a certain amount of time or just let the oil absorb into scalp and leave it alone?

I put it in either overnight or about an hour before washing my hair I have also wrapped a hot towel around my head after the oil for probably half to 1 hour. But I always wash it out otherwise it will look very greasy

Wow, amazing what they charge! You won't need another scrub ever. I use it for my face and body and just love it. In the shower the scrub is more mild since you r so wet so I like to use it like every other or every 3rd day at the sink on my face for a better scrub.
