Wood Floor Cleaner

Half and Half, vinegar and vegetable oil -- for a BIG CLEANING, like hand-and-knees scrubbing!

To just damp mop wooden floors, mix half water and half vinegar. If you cannot stand the smell, add some oil of cinnamon or clove or such to the mix.

I have no wood floors but NEVER would have thought of vegetable oil. I like your ideas here!

After scrubbing with the vinegar/oil mixture, do you just let it dry or do you have to mop with water over that?

I'm a tight wad too w/cleaning supplies so if i can do homemade, that's way better!

I am a horrid housekeeper, so when it gets to the point that a damp-mop just won't cut it, I end up on hands & knees with a bucket and a few rags. Dip, wring, scrub, rub, and then kinda buff/polish the standing moisture off. They are almost completely dry-dry, there isn't any standing moisture to warp the wood. No rinse. After a couple hours, I go back over the cleaned area with a towel under each foot and kinda skate around making sure that its all dry and soaked in.

We have show cars, so we have lots of smaller, cotton rags that do well for this. Like half a washcloth in size? or maybe a whole washcloth??

(Think "Karate Kid": Wax on, Wax off.) One rag in each hand, really works out those back and stomach muscles, wet rag in my left and dry rag in my right. When the left rag starts looking disgusting, toss it and move the right rag over to the wet side and get a freshie for drying... LOL! Great visual, huh? :embarrassed:

I've done Dear Hubby's house ONCE... in five years. LOL! It is HARD WORK and I have a bad back... it ain't gonna happen any time again/soon!!

I am not a very good housekeeper. I can fix your computer, and I can fix your car, though. LOL! I'm happier armed with a refilled Swiffer!

It is how my Mom cleaned wooden salad bowls when I was a kid, so I thought it oughtta work on floors. And it does. Give 'em a nice shine and feed 'em, too!

Ha!
I just received a free sample of an eco-me all-floor cleaner… And guess what?!

The ingredients are water, vinegar, coconut oil, grapefruit seed oil and fragrant plants essential oil blend.

Mopped most of the house with it.
As soon as the vinegar dies down, I think we'll have a lavender, mint, eucalyptus scent.
Not bad.
I'll report back later on it...

24-hours later: vinegar smell is gone. Lavender/Mint/Eucalyptus smell is also gone. Just kinda smells like wet dogs in here again. LOL! (South Texas has gotten rain for two days, dogs are damp and its about to rain again.)

TraciInTexas, today I finally bought an empty spray bottle so will be making the vegetable oil/vinegar concoction to clean my floors this coming week. Maybe I'll add a few drops of lavender oil to the batch too.

Let me know what you think!

Some people prefer the glossy look of waxed floors. With dogs, I am just happy for no paw prints and happy wood.

So I refilled the Swiffer bottle with a concoction of vinegar, water, and the dregs of my Old English Lemon Oil. Smells like Lemon/Gasoline Salad; but is working great in the Swiffer! Getting up lotsa dust, dried dog drool, and paw prints! LOL!
