German Pound Cake

I have not made this recipe. But I wanted to post it b/c it's something I plan to make and I know Vikinggirl was looking for a similar recipe.

(adapted from a recipe found in Good Housekeeping):

• 2 cups (400g) sugar
• 1 cup (230g) butter, softened
• 3 1/2 cups (480g) cake flour
• 1 1/4 cups (300 ml) milk
• 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
• 2 teaspoons vanilla
• 1/8 teaspoon salt
• 6 egg yolks
• dash lemon juice, to taste, a good squeeze just to scent the cake with a bit of lemon flavor
• Bakers Joy or Pam for Baking, if using this do not grease and flour pans. Follow directions on can.

Preheat oven to 350F/180C. Grease and flour a 10-inch tube or Bundt pan.
Cream butter and sugar together in a large mixing bowl.
Beat on high speed until mixture is fluffy.
Reduce speed to low.
Add the remaining ingredients.
Add a good squeeze of lemon juice, just enough to scent the batter with the lemon flavor.
Beat 2 minutes more gradually increasing mixer speed from low to high.
Pour into prepared pan.
Bake 45 to 50 minutes or until cake tests done.
Let cake stand in pan 10 minutes before turning out onto wire cooling racks.
Let cool completely before serving.
Serve with fresh sweetened strawberries and whipped cream
Serves 16.

Thank you very much for sharing your recipe for German Pound Cake, I'm definetely going to try this. It sounds delicious, and very similar ingredients to what my Grandma used.

I made this the other day and it was very good. I had to do some modifications, however, because I ran out of regular white flour. I used half white flour and half wheat. I used a bit more lemon juice and made a lemon curd to drizzle in the cake and as a glaze on the outside. My hubby loved it. I think I used a little too much liquid though, to compensate for the addition of wheat flour. Other than that, I was fabu!!!
