Carpet Cleaner for Steam Cleaning Machine
An inexpensive alternative to the store-bought variety. To check for color-fastness: test a bit of cleaner on an inconspicuous area of the carpet before using the first time. My machine mixes water on its own, storing the water in a separate area than the soap so I do not add in water to my mixture and I use oxyclean in place of dish soap. Works SO much better than the expensive store bought cleaners, leaves the carpet so soft too!
Ingredients:
1/4 cup lemon-scented ammonia
1/4 cup white vinegar
3 teaspoons ivory dish washing soap or 3 teaspoons any clear Joy dish washing soap (non-moisturizer) or can use oxyclean powder instead.
hot water
Directions:
1 Stir together the first 3 ingredients into a large (gallon-plus sized) container.
2 Add water; enough to equal one gallon.
3 Follow steam-cleaner manufacturer's directions for operating instructions.Last edited by cali~jenn; 01-21-2013 at 09:57 AM.

Re: Carpet Cleaner for Steam Cleaning Machine
That sounds really good, my hubby is steam cleaning our carpet as I type this right now. We have a Bissell Steam Cleaner, and have always used the Bissell carpet shampoo. I'll have to try yours. We only have one huge Sisal area rug in the living room, and we have hardwood flooring everywhere else on the main floor. The upstairs is all carpeted and down the stairs, but that carpet is not even two years old yet, and so we haven't cleaned it yet.
