Ingredients
• 1 (8 oz) wheel of brie cheese
• 1 loaf of round, crusty bread (such as sourdough or French bread)
• 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
• 2 cloves of garlic, minced
• 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves, chopped
• 1/4 cup honey
• 1/4 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
• Crackers, bread, or fruit for serving
Instructions
- Prepare the Bread Bowl: Using a serrated knife, cut the top off the bread, creating a lid. Hollow out the inside of the bread, leaving about a 1-inch thick shell all the way around. Reserve the bread top and remove any excess bread from the inside to create a bowl-like shape.
- Season the Bread Bowl: In a small bowl, mix together the softened butter, minced garlic, and chopped thyme. Spread the garlic-herb butter mixture evenly over the inside of the bread bowl and on the underside of the bread lid.
- Prepare the Brie: Place the wheel of brie cheese in the center of the bread bowl. If the brie has a rind, you can choose to remove it or leave it on, depending on your preference.
- Bake the Brie: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the filled bread bowl on a baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the brie is melted and the bread is golden brown. Keep a close eye on it to ensure the bread doesn’t overbrown.
- Finish with Toppings: Remove the baked brie in bread bowl from the oven and drizzle the honey over the top. If desired, sprinkle the chopped walnuts over the honey.
- Serve and Enjoy: Carefully transfer the baked brie in bread bowl to a serving platter. Serve immediately with crackers, sliced bread, or fresh fruit on the side, allowing your guests to dig in and enjoy the warm, gooey brie.
