Crock Pot Taco Meat

  • Author: Elizabeth
  • Total Time: 6-8 hours

Ingredients

• 2 pounds ground beef
• 1 large onion, diced
• 3 cloves garlic, minced
• 2 tablespoons chili powder
• 1 tablespoon ground cumin
• 1 teaspoon dried oregano
• 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
• 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for a kick of heat)
• 1 cup beef broth or water
• 1 (15-ounce) can diced tomatoes
• 1 (6-ounce) can tomato paste
• 1 teaspoon salt
• 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

• Step 1: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic until the beef is browned and the onions are translucent, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
• Step 2: Transfer the cooked beef mixture to a slow cooker. Add the chili powder, cumin, oregano, smoked paprika, cayenne (if using), beef broth, diced tomatoes, tomato paste, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
• Step 3: Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours, stirring occasionally, until the flavors have melded and the meat is very tender.
• Step 4: Taste and adjust seasoning as needed, adding more salt, pepper, or spices to suit your preference.
• Step 5: Serve the crock pot taco meat warm, with your favorite taco toppings such as shredded cheese, diced onions, chopped cilantro, sour cream, and diced avocado.
