Ingredients
• 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
• 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
• 1 teaspoon baking powder
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 1/3 cup milk
• 1 egg
• 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
• Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
• Step 1: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
• Step 2: In a separate bowl, beat the milk, egg, and melted butter until smooth.
• Step 3: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir just until a sticky dough forms. Be careful not to overmix.
• Step 4: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently a few times to bring it together. Roll the dough to 1/2-inch thickness.
• Step 5: Use a doughnut cutter or two different-sized round cutters to cut out the doughnut shapes, reserving the holes.
• Step 6: In a large heavy-bottomed pot or Dutch oven, heat 2-3 inches of vegetable oil to 350°F. Fry the doughnuts in batches for 1-2 minutes per side, until golden brown.
• Step 7: Drain the fried doughnuts on a paper towel-lined plate and let cool slightly. Glaze, coat in cinnamon-sugar, or top as desired.
