Ingredients
• 1 cup mayonnaise
• 2 tablespoons finely diced dill pickles or relish
• 2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh dill
• 1 tablespoon capers, drained and chopped
• 1 tablespoon lemon juice
• 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
• 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
• 1/4 teaspoon salt
• 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Gather and Prep the Ingredients: Measure out all the ingredients and have them ready to go. Finely dice the pickles or relish, chop the fresh dill, and drain and chop the capers.
- Mix the Sauce: In a medium-sized bowl, combine the mayonnaise, diced pickles or relish, chopped dill, capers, lemon juice, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Gently stir the ingredients together until they are evenly distributed and the sauce is smooth and creamy.
- Taste and Adjust: Give the tartar sauce a taste and adjust the seasoning as needed. Add a touch more lemon juice for extra tang, a pinch more salt for balance, or a sprinkle of black pepper to suit your personal preferences.
- Refrigerate and Allow Flavors to Meld: Cover the tartar sauce and refrigerate it for at least 30 minutes (or up to 3 days) to allow the flavors to meld and the texture to thicken slightly.
